Didier Deschamps Reveals Kylian Mbappe’s Injury Extent After Austria Win

France’s manager Didier Deschamps reveals the severity of Kylian Mbappe’s injury during their 1-0 win over Austria at Euro 2024. The Les Bleus captain played a crucial role in the match, setting up the only goal as Maximilian Wober scored an own goal. However, Mbappe collided with Kevin Danso, leaving him needing treatment on the field.

Blood appeared on the face of the new Real Madrid forward before he was booked for re-entering the field without the referee’s permission and was eventually substituted. Speaking to TF1 after the game, Deschamps confirmed the likely severity of Mbappe’s injury. “A broken nose? Apparently yes. His nose is not right at all. We’ll see. Obviously, it’s tonight’s negative. It’s only a nose, but it’s very bothering for us,” he admitted.

France now anxiously waits to see if Mbappe will miss any Euro 2024 games. Although a broken nose is suspected, he could potentially play with a mask if no other damage is found. If Mbappe is sidelined, Deschamps has several options to fill his spot.

Randal Kolo Muani and Olivier Giroud came on as substitutes against Austria, while Antoine Griezmann could move into a more advanced role. Wide players Bradley Barcola and Kingsley Coman were also on the bench.

Les Bleus will face the Netherlands next, who also won their Euro 2024 opener, defeating Poland 2-1 with goals from Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst.
