EFCC Challenges Mompha to Prove Corruption Allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has fired back at Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, after accuses EFCC of corruption. The drama unfolded on Instagram following a court report revealing that a witness found N35 billion in Mompha’s accounts.

Mompha, currently embroiled in a money laundering case brought by the EFCC, did not hold back. He took to social media, branding the EFCC “the most useless and corrupt Nigeria government agency” and mocking them with laughing emojis.

In a swift response, the EFCC challenged Mompha to substantiate his allegations. The agency’s statement reads: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to the malicious and unsubstantiated statement made by the embattled Ismaila Mustapha, (a.k.a Mompha) alleging corruption by operatives of the Commission.”

The EFCC dismissed Mompha’s claims as the desperate attempts of a defendant facing serious charges. “His accusations strike at the heart of our most prized value – integrity. If he thinks these baseless accusations will deter us from pursuing his case, he is mistaken. No amount of scaremongering will prevent us from seeing this case to its logical conclusion.”

Mompha is accused of conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activities, retention of proceeds of criminal activities, and failure to disclose assets. The EFCC emphasized that Mompha’s unsubstantiated claims will be taken seriously. “The Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has directed that Mompha be invited to present any evidence of corruption against our staff. Additionally, he should justify his labeling of the EFCC as a ‘useless agency’ with concrete proof.”

The EFCC made it clear that it will not allow its reputation to be tarnished by unfounded accusations. “As a responsible law enforcement agency, we will not sit back and allow libelous effusions against our reputation to go unchallenged. Mompha should focus on his court case instead of trying to paint the EFCC in a negative light through media antics.”

In conclusion, the EFCC urged the public to disregard Mompha’s allegations. “The general public is advised to ignore his ranting. Mompha should rather face his prosecution before a court of competent jurisdiction.”

Mompha’s allegations and the EFCC’s firm response have sparked significant public interest, highlighting the ongoing battle between the high-profile socialite and the anti-graft agency. The case continues to unfold with both sides firmly standing their ground.
