Malang Sarr Leaves Chelsea as Free Agent
Malang Sarr reportedly leaves Chelsea Football Club as a free agent ahead of the 2024/25 season after failing to break into the club’s first team. The French defender joined Chelsea in 2020 with high hopes but made only 21 appearances, his last in May 2022.
L’Équipé confirmed that Malang Sarr signed a two-year contract with Ligue 1 club Lens after agreeing on personal terms. He will travel to France for a medical before officially joining the club.
Sarr was close to joining Le Havre in January 2024, but the deal collapsed during the final hours of the transfer window.
Other notable exits from Chelsea include Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, and Omari Hutchinson, who have all left upon the expiration of their contracts. Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga are also expected to depart permanently before the 2024/25 season kicks off.
This series of departures marks a significant shift for Chelsea as they prepare for the upcoming season.
