Nicolas Pepe Reveals Shocking Abuse During Arsenal Tenure

Nicolas Pepe has stirred controversies on social media following his recent revelations about his time in the English Premier League with Arsenal.

Nicolas Pepe admitted he contemplated quitting football due to the abuse he endured during his time at Arsenal. The Ivorian forward became the Gunners’ record signing in the summer of 2019 after an impressive season at Lille. Arsenal paid £72 million to secure his services amidst interest from various European clubs.

Despite showing occasional moments of brilliance, Pepe struggled to meet expectations at the Emirates. Many believed Arsenal did not receive a satisfactory return on their investment. During his three-year tenure at the club, he scored 27 goals but faced severe criticism throughout his time there. Ultimately, Arsenal decided to terminate his contract to alleviate the burden of his substantial wages.

In an interview with French outlet L’Equipe, Pepe revealed, “It was almost harassment. I don’t spend much time on social media, but if my brother told me about the comments, it would unconsciously affect me. The criticism also came from the media and certain members of the club. They don’t realize the impact it can have on mental well-being, family, and performance.”

He expressed frustration at being labeled the “biggest flop in the history of the Premier League” but asserted he refused to let it defeat him. Following his time at Arsenal, Pepe played for Trabzonspor in Turkey, scoring six goals last season before his one-year deal expired.

Reflecting on his relationship with Mikel Arteta, who authorized his departure, Pepe mentioned the Spanish coach initially indicated he would be part of his plans but then consistently left him on the bench. “How could I be a substitute when he said he counted on me? Everything is spinning in your head,” Pepe said.

Now a free agent, the 29-year-old has decided not to renew his deal with Trabzonspor and reportedly aims to continue his career in Europe, despite interest from Saudi Arabia.
