Robert Lewandowski Faces Injury Scare Ahead of Euro 2024

Robert Lewandowski has sustained a thigh injury just ahead of Poland’s Euro 2024 campaign.
The Barcelona forward was substituted after 32 minutes during Poland’s 2-1 victory over Turkey in their final warm-up friendly. Kacper Urbanski replaced him on the field.
This was not the only injury Poland faced that night. Striker Karol Swiderski also had to leave the match due to an ankle injury he sustained while celebrating the opening goal. Krzysztof Piatek took his place. Despite these setbacks, Nicola Zalewski secured the win for Poland with a last-minute goal, following an equalizer by Turkey’s Baris Alper Yilmaz.
Post-match, Poland’s coach Michal Probierz stated that despite the injuries, neither player would be replaced in the Euro 2024 squad. He remains optimistic about their recovery in time for the tournament. Probierz mentioned, “Robert has a slight injury but there should be no problem,” and added that Swiderski’s condition would be clearer after further tests, but no squad changes are anticipated.
Lewandowski approaches the Euros following an impressive season with Barcelona, scoring 26 goals and providing nine assists in 49 appearances. However, his efforts weren’t enough to secure a trophy for the team, as they lost the La Liga title to Real Madrid.
Poland enters Euro 2024 in strong form, with an unbeaten streak of eight matches, including five wins. Their group stage matches include challenging opponents: the Netherlands, Austria, and tournament favorites France. Poland’s best performance in a European Championship was reaching the quarter-finals in 2016, where they were defeated by Portugal, the eventual champions.
