Wolves Secure Signing of Pedro Lima, Beating Chelsea to Brazilian Defender
Wolves Beat Chelsea to Signing Brazilian Youngster Pedro Lima
Premier League club Wolves have edged out Chelsea in the race to sign promising Brazilian full-back Pedro Lima, according to an announcement from his current club Sport Recife.
Chelsea had been actively pursuing the 17-year-old as part of their scouting efforts in South America, with plans for him to initially join Strasbourg on loan before potentially moving to Stamford Bridge. However, Sport Recife confirmed in a statement that they have reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers instead.
The statement reads: “Sport Club do Recife announces the transfer of the economic and federative rights of Pedro Lima to Wolverhampton Wanderers, from England. The agreement is pending customary conditions, including the player’s medical examination at the English club.”
Personal terms between Lima and Wolves have reportedly been agreed upon, with a five-year contract and an option for an additional season. This deal marks Wolves’ second signing of the summer after Rodrigo Gomes joined from Braga.
Lima had previously hinted at a move to Chelsea, telling a journalist, “The move to Chelsea? It’s almost done…!” The transfer is expected to be finalized on 1 July, coinciding with Lima’s 18th birthday.
The young defender, who represented Brazil at the Under-17 World Cup last year, has made significant strides with 30 appearances for Sport Recife in the 2024 season, including eight in Brazil’s Serie B.
