On June 5, 2024, Alexx Ekubo shared a post on Instagram suggesting that people ask their partners about their opinions on the suspended NLC strike. He implied that understanding their views on this issue could provide insight into their character.

His post stated, “Take a moment to discuss the ongoing NLC and TUC strike in Nigeria and their stance on the demand for a new minimum wage with your significant other. It’s important to know where they stand. I hope for the sake of your future family, your partner understands the significance of NLC and TUC. Otherwise, it may be time to reconsider.”

Ekubo faced criticism from some social media users who disagreed with his approach, arguing that the strike topic shouldn’t be a determinant of a partner’s intelligence.

One user commented, “Is knowledge about NLC and TUC the sole measure of intellect? Instead of testing them, why not educate your partner?”

Another user expressed, “Not knowing about it doesn’t diminish someone’s worth. It’s an opportunity to share knowledge with your partner.”

Yet another user questioned Ekubo’s stance, asking, “If they’re unaware, does that mean they’re unworthy? Should I end a relationship over this?”

The NLC and TUC recently initiated a strike over the minimum wage issue, which was subsequently suspended following negotiations with the government.
