Barcelona Signs Spanish Star Midfielder in Six-Year Deal

Barcelona has officially confirmed the signing of Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The 26-year-old has agreed to a six-year contract, keeping him at the club until at least 2030. Barcelona announced the transfer on its official website on Friday, August 9, 2024, and set a massive £500 million buy-out clause for the player.

Dani Olmo returns to Barcelona after a decade-long absence, having initially joined La Masia in 2007 from Espanyol. Over the past four seasons in the Bundesliga, Olmo has been a standout player, winning two German Cups and a German Super Cup, where he scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich.

In his first interview on Barcelona’s website, Olmo expressed his excitement about returning to the club and praised his new teammates. “Seeing all the family here, and also my teammates… I thank you very much, everything happened very quickly. Also with Leipzig, I am grateful to them. I like the new stage I am in now. We are going to achieve everything. Multi-position, efficiency, and quality. I already know some of the Barça players and played with them and now I look forward to getting to know and play with others like Frenkie and Lewandowski because they are high-quality players,” Olmo said.

Dani Olmo made his debut for the Spanish national team during the Euro 2020 qualifiers, where he scored on his first appearance. He also represented Spain in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning a silver medal, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the recent Euro 2024 tournament, where he was the top scorer with three goals.

Olmo’s versatility is expected to be a significant asset for Barcelona. He can play in various positions, including either wing and the No. 10 role. His impressive performance during Spain’s Euro 2024 campaign, where he shared the Golden Boot with three goals and two assists, underscores his potential impact at the club.

This marks Barcelona’s first official signing of the summer transfer window, adding a dynamic and talented player to their squad.
