Elon Musk Moves SpaceX HQ to Texas Over CA Transgender Law
Elon Musk has announced the relocation of his company’s headquarters to Texas due to California’s new transgender law.
Musk declared on X on Tuesday, July 16, that SpaceX will move from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas. He cited a new California law banning schools from informing parents if their child is transgender.
Musk expressed strong disapproval of the law, stating it “attacks both families and companies.” He also revealed that X would shift its headquarters from San Francisco to Austin, Texas. Musk mentioned his frustration with encountering “violent drug addicts” near the current office.
The CEO’s decision followed a bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday. The new law prohibits public K-12 schools from enforcing “forced disclosure” rules regarding a student’s transgender status.
Currently, eight Republican-run states mandate that teachers inform parents if a child changes their name, pronouns, or gender identity at school. California is the first state to outlaw these requirements.
Musk, who has had a public falling out with one of his children over their gender identity, described this law as “the last straw.” He warned that families might have to “leave California to protect their children.”
