Falz Explains Why His New EP Avoids Nigeria’s Problems
Falz did not address Nigeria’s problems in his new EP, “Before the Feast,” choosing a different approach instead.
In an interview with The Punch, Falz shared his deliberate decision to avoid complaints and negativity. He aimed to instill a positive mindset in his listeners through his music. This choice led to a focus on diverse sounds and themes, rather than socio-political commentary.
Falz intentionally toned down his usual socio-political lyrics, working with various producers to achieve a unique sound. He wanted to inspire Africans in 2024 to adopt a mindset free from negativity and complaints.
The rapper explained, “On this project, I am not doing much of the social or political commentary that I typically do. There are socially conscious lyrics, but not particularly about the affairs of the country. That is intentional as well. I resolved not to complain because the emotion I am trying to convey has to be one that comes without that element of complaining. I want to put the listener in the mindset I feel they should have as Africans existing in 2024.”
Falz emphasized the intentional diversity in the EP, noting that each song featured a different producer, contributing to the project’s fresh and varied sound. He concluded, “What I want to do with the EP is to cleanse the palette of the listener. It was very intentional.”
