John Terry Slams BBC for Mocking Ronaldo’s EURO 2024 Penalty Miss
Chelsea legend John Terry has slammed the BBC following their shocking comment about Cristiano Ronaldo’s EURO 2024 penalty miss for Portugal. Former England and Chelsea captain Terry criticized the BBC for using a mocking caption to describe Portugal’s captain Ronaldo missing a penalty in the Portugal vs Slovenia EURO 2024 round of 16 fixture.
In extra time, Ronaldo had the chance to give Portugal the lead, but his shot was saved by Atletico Madrid’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak. His teammates had to comfort him as he broke down in tears during the game. The BBC sparked outrage among fans and pundits after it mockingly captioned a replay of the penalty miss as “Misstiano Penaldo.” Chelsea legend John Terry took to Instagram to slam the caption, calling it a “disgrace,” while fans also criticized the corporation for being “unprofessional.”
Having failed to score during the group stage, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo was determined to make a decisive contribution in the last-16 showdown with Slovenia. He fired several free-kicks and came close to meeting several crosses. But his big moment came in extra time when he stepped up to the penalty spot. Ronaldo’s effort was saved by Oblak, leaving the Portuguese superstar in tears.
Ronaldo’s mother, who was watching, was also in tears after her son missed the penalty. However, Ronaldo later redeemed himself by scoring a penalty in the shootout, where Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa made three saves to send his team to the quarterfinals of the Euros.
