Kanayo’s Threat Sparks Response from Angel Unigwe’s Legal Team
Teen actress Angel Unigwe’s legal team has fired back at veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo’s allegations. Kanayo accused Angel of professional misconduct and threatened to ruin her future endeavors, claiming she broke her contract with him.
Unigwe’s manager, Chief Juliet Kings, issued a strongly worded letter rejecting the charges and explaining the film production’s circumstances. Kings labeled Kanayo’s allegations as “false, unfounded, and slanderous” and urged him to act professionally.
“It came as a rude shock to learn of and, more importantly, watch and listen to the false, unfounded, and slanderous statements attributed to Mr. Kanayo in the video in question. These statements threaten Miss Unigwe’s safety and dignity by promising to disrupt any set where she intends to work,” Kings stated.
Kings emphasized that these threats, spread via video and social media, amount to cyberbullying. They have caused significant emotional distress to Angel and her team.
Unigwe participated in the project under clear, agreed terms, including a daily wrap time of 9 pm. Despite concerns about filming 57 scenes in three days, they proceeded based on assurances from Kanayo and the director.
“From June 17th to June 19th, 2024, Miss Unigwe worked on a film under clear terms, including a 9 pm wrap time. Despite doubts about filming 57 scenes in three days, we trusted Kanayo and director Ndifreke Matthew’s assurances. They agreed to the 12-hour shooting schedule,” Kings explained.
After working an extra 45 to 50 minutes beyond the agreed hours, they left the location without protest from the director or production manager, Mr. Cosmos Nwaihe.
“This situation highlights gender-based oppression in the industry. We faced derogatory and defamatory remarks for insisting on the agreed terms. It’s disheartening to see such behavior, especially from a respected industry veteran,” Kings noted.
Kings concluded by urging for mutual respect and professionalism in the industry, highlighting the importance of adhering to agreements made by all parties involved.
