Leny Yoro Explains Choosing Man United Over Real Madrid

Manchester United have completed the signing of Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 side Lille, marking the Red Devils’ second signing of the 2024 summer transfer window.

Manchester United confirmed the signing of the young defender on its official website on Thursday, July 18, 2024. According to reports from the club, Leny Yoro signed a five-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2029.

In his first interview as a Red Devil, Yoro explained why he chose Manchester United over Real Madrid. He said, “I know about the history of young players at Man United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions.” He added that it was an easy decision to join after speaking with the club’s top officials and understanding their vision.

“Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop as part of this exciting project, showing a lot of care for me and my family. It’s an incredible honor to sign for a club of Man Utd’s stature.”

Yoro’s impressive performance for Lille last season convinced United to pay £50 million for him, despite having one year left on his contract with the French side. Real Madrid were initially interested in bringing the 18-year-old to Bernabeu but were not ready to break the bank for Yoro.

He is expected to partner with Argentina international Lisandro Martinez in defense for most of the 2024/25 season, barring any injuries.
