Tems sets new Spotify record for a Nigerian female artist

On June 7, 2024, Tems celebrated a milestone with the release of her debut album ‘Born In The Wild’, garnering 8 million streams, a noteworthy achievement for a Nigerian female artist.

During the album’s debut, Tems accumulated 5.33 million global streams, securing the second position, closely following Ayra Starr, who achieved 6.3 million streams on the opening day of her sophomore album ‘The Year I Turned 21’.

Tems rose to prominence internationally in 2021 after her notable contributions to Wizkid’s hit song ‘Essence’, solidifying her position as one of the fastest-growing artists globally.

Her debut album, ‘Born In The Wild’, boasts 18 tracks, featuring collaborations with Nigerian sensation Asake and American rapper J Cole.

Preceding the album release, Tems unveiled two singles, ‘Me & U’ and ‘Love Me Jeje‘, amassing over 99 million and 32 million streams respectively. The success of these singles underscores her rising status, setting the stage for her debut album to achieve commercial success.

Tems has etched her name in the Nigerian music scene, notably becoming the first Nigerian female artist to clinch a Grammy award in 2022 for Best Melodic Rap Performance, thanks to her collaboration with Future and Drake on ‘Wait For U’.

Additionally, she made history as the first Nigerian artist to receive an Oscar nomination for her contribution to the soundtrack of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
