Yvonne Jegede expressed regret, stating that she should have prioritized financial stability over love in her marriage.
During a recent interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the actress opened up about her marriage to ex-husband Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, shedding light on the changes that occurred within their relationship.
She shared that after tying the knot, her husband began to scrutinize her manner of speaking and frequently pointed out the age gap between them, a behavior he hadn’t exhibited before.
Reflecting on the dynamic, she remarked, “He is eight years older than me. But the moment we got married, if I tell him, ‘You’re acting foolish,’ he would interpret it as disrespect. Yet, it’s the same way I’ve always communicated for over a decade.”
Jegede went on to disclose that one of the contributing factors to her decision to leave the marriage was financial strain.
“Let’s be clear, I was the primary breadwinner. Now, I’m solely providing for my son with minimal support. It’s a challenging and lonely journey. In hindsight, perhaps I should have prioritized financial stability over love. I’m just being candid.”
Her candid revelation sparked a wave of responses on social media, igniting conversations about financial roles within marriages. An Instagram user commented, “May we choose partners who are financially responsible.”
“As a man, always strive to be financially capable,” expressed another user.
Yet another Instagram user reflected, “Women often remember the ways they’ve supported their partners, while men may not always acknowledge it. It’s like there are two sides to the story.”
