In an interview with media personality Lucky Udu, actor Hanks Anuku addressed viral videos from 2023 that falsely portrayed him as mentally unstable. The videos showed him walking the streets, talking to himself, and looking disheveled. Anuku explained that he was merely preparing for a role as a madman.

“That day, I was trying to get into character for a role I was going to play. Someone who was not in his right frame of mind,” he said. “I did it in the neighborhood to show how the director wanted it. I was meditating and focusing on my script, unaware I was being recorded.”

Anuku dismissed the rumors about his sanity and drug use, stating, “People have said a lot. They claimed I was on drugs. I wasn’t. Depression might have caused stress, but I’m not a madman. I’m very sane and healthy. I exercise and practice martial arts.”

He also shared the impact of these false rumors, saying, “I lost a lot of money and job opportunities. I was jobless for a while, and people didn’t care about me. I went through pain and heartbreak.”
